This box is a tribute to our neighbors at Firehouse #3, in Keller. It's nice to have you guys sooooo close!

One way you can thank the firefighters in your area is to yield the right of way to firetrucks and other emergency vehicles. When you become aware of an approaching emergency vehicle, pull to the right and stop. If you are approaching an intersection and see an emergency vehicle that is approaching the intersection from behind you or another direction, come to a stop preferably one or two car lengths back from the intersection. These simple maneuvers can result in seconds saved by the emergency vehicle and can translate into a huge difference for someone who is having a medical emergency or is experiencing a fire.

Also, many people are not aware of the new Texas law regarding non-moving emergency vehicles. The law states a driver must either vacate the lane closest to the stopped emergency vehicle if the road has multiple lanes traveling in the same direction or slow down 20 miles per hour below the speed limit. (If the speed limit is below 25 mph the driver must slow down to 5 mph.)

Go to Keller Fire House #3. Directly to the left of the firehouse you will see M.B. Stephenson Firefighter Memorial Park. If you cross the driveway of the firehouse to get there, be aware and watch for firetrucks leaving to answer emergency calls. Go the the park sign. Stand on the sidewalk, facing the sign. Look about 3 paces to the right of the sign, and three paces behind the sign and you will see a tree with four trunks coming from the ground. The box may be found in the crevice created by the four trunks, obscured by large pieces of wood and branches, wedged into the space.

Please be vigilant in re-hiding this box. Make sure that you wedge the branches in so that the box is completely hidden from both the front and back of the tree and that the branches lodge securely in the space, and aren't merely balancing there so that a strong wind will unvcover the box. Also, when retrieving and replacing the box, be aware that this area is highly visible. It is right on Rufe Snow, which is very busy. Also, watch that you do not go when the firefighters are out front, or when they have the garage doors open. They are not aware that this box is here. We hid the box after dark, when the firehouse was quiet and the traffic on Rufe Snow had died down.

Happy hunting!
