Autumn in Wells State Park

Wells State Park is accessible from Route 49/Podunk Road in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Route 49 is accessible from Route 9 in Spencer (west side of town) and from Route 20 in Sturbridge (east side of town, east of Interstate 84).

Once entering Wells State Park, park at the entrance (cars are allowed in the park only for campers) and pay the $2 parking fee if in season.

From the parking lot, head into the park and turn right onto the paved road. At the crest of a small hill, Mill Pond Trail comes back in from the right on a paved road (made a loop), while the main road turns left. Go straight here on the Yellow/Red hiking trail. After a short while you will reach a well marked Y trail junction; take the Yellow/White trail on the left. Take this trail until the T junction of the North and South Trails (both are very well marked) and
turn left onto South Trail. Stay on this trail until you reach a rock ledge immediately adjacent (abutting the trail/hard against the trail) on the right. This is the only rock ledge immediately up against the trail, and is on a slight downhill (last downhill before the "T" junction). Pass the rock ledge and climb up to the top (not very far up) to the “second level” of rocks (about 2/3 of the way up the ledge). Autumn is hidden under a large rock and hidden by several smaller rocks. As a reference, this rock ledge is about 100 feet from the next trail junction.

If you have a hard time finding this box, the alternative approach is to take South Trail to the "T" junction. Turn around and go back through a flat section. As the trail starts to climb up a small hill and curve right, climb up the rock ledge on the left. About 2/3 of the way up, look for Autumn hidden by several rocks.

After finding Autumn, continue onto the trail junction and turn left. This trail eventually intersects the paved road; take the paved road downhill (straight ahead) and follow until you reach the parking lot

This was originally part of a set of 4 boxes; we have had a chance to pull the first 3, as we no longer live in the area. This remaining box will be pulled the next time we can make it back and have a chance to do so, as I am no longer able to maintain it. If you find this box has leaked badly, please let me know and I will pull the listing.
