While we enjoy going to the Florida beaches we also like to explore Florida's natural areas. This box combines both of these pastimes. The stamp is designed from a sculpture found at nearby Englewood Beach, we hid the box in Jelks Preserve off River Rd in Venice. The park offers nice hiking trails through many diverse habitats. The day we were here we saw armadillos and turtles. The loop trail is 3.3 miles if you are looking for a good hike.

Enter the preserve and park. Study the map and/or take a trail map if available. (Note that there are no restrooms or water along the trails so be sure plan ahead before you head out). Take the path heading into the preserve behind the map. In a short while you will pass a bench on the right, before coming to a trail marker (2). Go down the left trail toward the river. Stop to read about "The Wild and Scenic Myakka River", then continue down the path to the end where you will find more picnic tables and a second Myakka River sign. Standing in front of the sign, look to your left and you should see a lone palm tree. With your back to this tree, facing away from the river, there are 2 oak trees about 15 feet ahead, one with a slingshot shaped trunk. The Conch Shell is hiding to the left of this 2nd tree under the saw palmetto. Enjoy and rehide well! Head back to the main trail and continue around the loop or head back to the parking lot.

Please let us know how this box is doing by logging onto LbNA or Atlas Quest. We are going back north so will not be able to check on it until next winter.
