Spring Lake attracts all sorts of lovely wildlife, including geese. As you stroll around the lake area you may hear gaggles of them honking overhead, and if you wander down to the shores of the lake, you can often see them swimming or walking along the banks in search of snacks.
In your search for Goose and Gander, enter Spring Lake Park by Hoen Avenue at the corner of Hoen and Summerfield. Follow the signs to Spring Lake and you will come to the park entrance where you will pay a fee to drive in. The entrance is open from 7am to sunset.
Turn left and drive toward the boat ramp for approximately .6 mile to the Jackrabbit Parcourse sign on your right. Find a parking space, and then return on foot to the Jackrabbit Parcourse sign. From the sign, walk down the road about 30 steps to a small trail on your right.
Take the trail (watch out for poison oak) to the first switchback to the right (there’s a trail sign there). Follow the switchback to the right until you reach a fork in the trail (and another trail sign), where you go left up the hill for about 50 steps. When you spot a triple-trunked oak tree, proceed from there to a double-trunked oak tree about 10 steps uphill in a rock outcropping.
In the crotch of the double-trunked oak you’ll find Goose and Gander under some rocks.
Thanks for visiting.
