On the "Cheat Mountain Ridge" trail there is a firetower barely visible from Snowshoe. This is on the ridge directly facing Snowshoe so it offers great views of the slopes/trails and of the beautiful valleys surrounding the trail. You can take "Bail Out" there, it's about a mile and gains 700 ft in elevation so it's a little steep. You can also take "6,000 steps" there, it's longer, less steep and can be traveled by bicycle.

From the South-West corner of the firetower take a heading of 200 and take 8 paces (2 steps per pace) towards the mound. From the top of the mound take a heading of 220 into the woods and cross the large fallen tree. After you cross the large fallen tree look to the North-West to see the other half of the large fallen tree that is still standing. Approximately 10 feet West of the still standing half of the large tree, and in the triangle of three fallen trees, covered in moss and sticks lies the Snowshoe firetower letterbox!

GPS coordinates: N38°25.130 W079°57.890

This is a combination letterbox/geocache so you will find some small prizes in the box and feel free to take a prize and leave a prize!
