This letterbox is located in Stoney Run County Park (Lake County, IN). It is between Crown Point, IN and Hebron, IN. This park is open from 7 a.m. to sunset year round. The official address of the park is 142nd and Union Street – Leroy, IN 46355. Leroy is a small town just outside of Crown Point.
You can take I-65 to reach Crown Point. Proceed east out of Crown Point, Indiana, on US Highway 231 (towards Hebron, IN). Travel east (and heading south) for about 4.5 miles. Turn left at 145th Avenue.
The Korean War Memorial will be on your left---continue past it on 145th for 2.5 miles till you reach the park.

This park features the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial, hiking, horseback riding allowed on the perimeter trail, fishing in the pond, picnic tables, cross country skiing and a nice playground.

As you enter the park, turn left at the gatehouse. Proceed down the lane and park in the lot by the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial. (You will recognize it by the flags, plaque and bleachers.) You may wish to take a few moments to observe the Memorial and reflect. Your search will begin seriously at this point. Head towards the woods; the Memorial will be on your left and the bathrooms will be on your left. Walk past the pond (on your right). You will pass picnic shelter #2 and also go past the horseshoe pit toward the southeast entrance of the Nature Trail. There will be a sign to indicate the Nature Trail and a map box. Look to your right and you will see the playground in the distance. Follow the Nature Trail down into the ravine and over the wooden footbridge. Continue on the Nature Trail until you reach the Oak Hickory Forest sign. You will turn and follow the path to the right that is just beyond this sign. Go for approximately 45 paces. Stop—turn to your left---and look for the tree that is forked like a “Y”. (Just beyond the forked “Y” tree is another tree that is cracked and broken over, with the broken section bent over and touching the ground.) Walk to the “Y” tree and begin to search hard here. Look in the back of this tree for the opening that conceals the treasure. If you pass under the broken tree in the woods, then you have gone too far. Happy hunting!
