.Enter into the north end of Devil’s Lake State Park.
.Hike the low trail along the west side of Devil’s Lake.
.Once you’ve turned south around the lake, pass two benches before reading the geological history of Baraboo Quartzite. (By the way, it is purple because of the flouride dissolved in the water when the sand turned to metamorphic rock.)
.You’ll pass two more benches before the trail meanders through the boulder field. This is a great place to wear out the kids, but be careful.
.As you enter into the trees on the far side of the boulder field, you’ll pass a large parallelogram-shaped rock on your right, then a double tree on your left.
.Coming up on your left is a huge rock near the lake. Carefully walk off the trail toward the rock, watching out for holes under the leaf litter.
.On the south side of the rock is a large pine tree.
.Stand at the base of the tree, facing northwest.
.From the base of the tree walk carefully 4 paces northwest.
.A squirrel's delight is hidden here!
