Every year during Poly Royal, Cal Poly's architecture dept. hosts "Design Village." Schools from all over come to compete in this event. Each group, consisting of 2 to 6 students designs a structure that they must live in for the entire weekend. The kicker is they must carry everything they will use for their structure by hand a mile up the canyon. Do a Google search for Cal Poly Design Village to see photos of some of the structures that were built in 2008. Our sons structure is the silver dome on a tripod that bears the name TEAM TRIAD. Our son's team from West Valley College took "Best Overall" and 2 honorable mentions in 2008. (Proud parents) At the listing of this box we are awaiting the outcome for this years competition. Fingers crossed! Hoping for another win... On this site you can find a map of the canyon that will help you find this box. (You can find it without the map but it is kind of neat to have as it lists the names of the structures you will see)
If you want to find this box you must find out where Design Village is held each year. You can not drive to this one as there is a locked gate at the beginning of the road. It is a one mile hike up the dirt road. When you come to a stone arch on your left, pass through it and follow the trail to the permanent structures designed by graduate students from Cal Poly. The structures dot the hill side. You need to find the TENSILE BRIDGE. ***See PHOTO. You can find the photo on atlasquest.com Once you get to the site just search either for the box name (Cal Poly Design Village)or by the city. When you find the TENSILE BRIDGE go to the far side look underneath near cement and beams for a brown box. GOOD LUCK. *** Please bring plenty of water for this hike.

There is a first finder photo card tucked in the box for the first finder to take. Enjoy.
