My first box!

Respect the environment; it’s not a bad idea to bring along a small trash bag to pick up litter you may find during your search. Bring your rubber stamp, stamp pad, a pen, and some extra ziplock baggies, too. If you have a compass it will help.

Letterbox safely, and have fun!

This letterbox is near the Crisafulli School on Robinson Road in Westford, MA. In winter you are likely to see deer tracks along this trail.

Across from the school entrance is Hutchins Way. Between #15 and #16 Hutchins Way you will see a fire hydrant. To the left of the hydrant, go straight back and a few steps into the woods you will find a tree marker at the trail head.

Follow the trail straight in until you cross a stone wall. Turn right and follow the trail a short way until you cross a second wall, then turn left.

Soon you will cross a small brook (at least in the spring), and in another 50+ steps or so the trail will turn uphill to the left. In about a dozen giant steps you will see a large boulder on the left side of the trail. Stop here. After you find the letterbox you will come back to this point.

To your left you will see a stone wall. Go to the biggest rock in the wall, which you will find at a ‘T’ with another wall coming from the far side. To the left of this rock is a tree. The letterbox is hidden between this tree and the wall, under a pair of flat rocks. Once you’ve retrieved the letterbox, move back to the spot on the trail (by the boulder) before opening it. Read the first entry in the log book and see if you can find the Hunter’s Perch, a long-abandoned tree stand about 15 feet in the air. In winter there are often deer tracks in the fresh snow under this old tree stand.

When done, PLEASE reseal the letterbox and baggies so it is all absolutely watertight and replace it, completely hidden from view.
