7/16/11: Lee County has begun taking out several of its area rest stops, this being one of them. I have recieved several "attempted" status reports on this box. I haven't been able to get out that way to see if I can locate or retrieve this box.
From Giddings, take US Hwy 77 North about 6.5 miles. You will see a 1-mile sign for the picnic area just before the junction with FM 1624. Go straight (do not take junction), and the picnic area will be on your right immediately after crossing Elm Creek.
From Lexington, take US Hwy 77 South about 10.5 miles. You will see a 1-mile sign for the picnic area. It will be on your left immediately before the Elm Creek bridge.
From Walch Store on TX Hwy 21, cross Hwy 21 (watch out, heavy traffic does not stop) and take FM 1624 East, go <2 miles. Turn left on US Hwy 77, go <1 mile, the picnic area will be on your right immediately after crossing Elm Creek.
In the picnic area, Go to the lone table and trash can. Halfway between the picnic foundation and the creek, look to your left for a fallen log. Underneath the far side of the log you will find the box. Watch for spiders and snakes!
