Welcome to Waunakee, the only Waunakee in the World!
The name Waunakee is borrowed from local Native American language, and is variously translated as "you win," "sharpshooter," "he lives in peace," "the fair and pleasant valley," and several other unrelated phrases. Our first hand-carved stamp (it’s rough) honors this Native American history.
The search starts at Village Park which is on the edge of town, at one end of Main Street. Park your car in the lot. Walk around the oval circle of the fence that encircles the baseball field. You will notice 6 Mile Creek meanders on your left.
Follow the fence around until you reach the flagpole that stands outside of the back of the Village Center building. Facing the flagpole and the building, follow the paved path that goes up the hill. At the top of that hill, there is a grove of trees on your left.
Search for the black asphalt rock at your feet. (a metal fence is on your right) Stand on it, facing the creek. Directly in front of you (and 13 paces down the hill) find a hollowed out base of a large standing tree. Inside is an Indian artifact. Please make sure to rehide well, covering with bark or leaves.
