Rochester is a sleepy little town in Western Racine County about 20 minutes northeast of Lake Geneva and 30 minutes southwest of Milwaukee. "Rochester was established in 1836, after the end of the Black Hawk War opened the area to white settlement. It is thought that James Hathaway, a land surveyor, named the area "Waukeeshah" (meaning fox in Potowatomi) but settlers from New York persisted in calling their new town "Rochester" after their old home in New York, and Rochester it became."

The beauty of living in Rochester is that there are many quaint shops and locations to visit. One of my favorite, as a teacher, is the Rochester Public Library. Situated at the top of a hill west of the river at the corner of W. Main St. and W. Spring St., the library may be small, but it is the epicenter for many community events and gatherings. Your treasure is sitting on the shelves waiting to be found.
Books are great to curl up with under a shade tree on a warm, summer afternoon. Fill in the common names of these shade trees. (Hint: These are all from a list of Wisconsin trees on the uwgb.edu website.)
