Trail difficulty: fairly easy, a dirt trail but fairly flat.
Walking time: about 20 minutes one way.
Stamp hand-carved by Don and Gwen.
Status: Alive and well on January 11, 2022

From I-10, take Exit 281 and drive south on State Highway 83 for about 0.2 mile. Turn left on Old Sonoita Highway and drive for about 2.9 miles. Look for a brown trail/pedestrian gate on the left. This is the Arizona Trail trailhead. Park along the shoulder of the road (your choice where!).

Go through the gate and walk heading northeast. The trail will take you past a nice variety of Sonoran Desert cactus and other plants. You will cross a couple of small sandy washes. You will then approach a wide very shallow water course, about 10 minutes from the start. In another 10 minutes, the trail makes a fairly significant turn to the left. At the turn, on the left side of the trail are three medium size Palo Verde Trees in a row. *At the West end of the 3 Palo Verde trees is a group of Yucca plants. Stand at the Western edge of the Yucca grouping and walk 56 steps at 330* to another group of Yuccas. You will walk through a row of shoulder-high Mesquite and Palo Verde bushes before you reach the Yuccas. The box is on the West side of the Yuccas under a flat rock and plant debris.

Please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the rocks and plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.

Please let me know if the box needs attention or is missing.

Please record your find at www.letterboxing.org/ or at www.atlasquest.com/ .

This box was placed for National/International Letterboxing Day -- May 24, 2009.

I wish to thank Don and Gwen for carving the stamp and providing the logbook and box.
Thank you to the off-trail hiker who found the logbook and stamp scattered on December 29, 2011. The hiker carefully documented the remains and communicated to me through LBNA.
