The Bateke are a relative small ethnic group. However, they are represented very well in Gabonese politics by Monsieur Le President, El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba (né Albert Bernard Bongo). Bongo was the Vice President when Gabon's first democratically elected president, Leon Mba, died under mysterious circumstances in 1967. Although some dispute the legitimacy of later elections, he has won every one of them.
Now for the clues.
If rising tolls have you in a Funk, there is a powerful shunpiking alternative. Heading west toward it, you should see the pulloff for this trailhead just before going down the last hill. Follow the trail downhill and across a cement bridge. At the top of the next hill, notice the old homestead to your right. The trail goes downhill while curving to the right before leveling out. At the fork, go left. Eventually, you will reach some picnic tables that obviously do not see regular use. To your left is the back of a bill board. The box location is off in the woods at the base of a tree with a noticeable bend in the trunk, from which you are roughly behind the billboard. To stamp in, you can sit on the nearby log, or go to one of the picnic tables. Please recover well, as this general area is probably popular with fishermen. Bug spray is probably also a good idea in season. Stay off the train tracks! You do not need to go anywhere near the tracks to find the letterbox.
