Directions: Drive down Middle Road past Acushnet Elementary and Middle Schools. Come to Lake Street. Across from lake street, go down Bow Drive. Drive down the hill and after a short distance take a left onto Archer’s Way. Park in the street in front of the two small water reservoirs. (Do not park on grass, neighbor will be upset.)

Difficulty: Moderate
Beware of dirtbikes and four wheelers.

Sprinting over the rocks in between two small reservoirs I made a dash to enter the woods of Acushnet. Watching my every step and being careful not to sprain an ankle over the rocks I kept a good pace. In the beginning of my journey a steep hill would prove to be discouraging for me to move on but I reached the top with only minor scratches on my knees from slipping. At the top of the hill I set my eyes upon a small campsite that was perfect for a rest on a log. My injuries were only minor so I set forth once again through an “S” turn. After the “S” turn I took a right and followed a long trail lined with trees. I looked around while walking and the only thing that I could see through the trees…..were more trees. I then stumbled upon a river which seemed, at the time, to be the end of my journey. I then glanced to the left and noticed a make-shift bridge which would allow me to cross. So I did, I successfully crossed the bridge and continued past the yellow tape entangled in the trees on the lefthand side and bared right at the fence fork. I now found myself traveling on another trail completely surrounded by trees. Although, on this trail the trees were not so close to the sides. I journeyed down this trail for a while enjoying my surroundings and then noticed that on the left side of the trail there was a hill and a small stone wall that seemed to have been built by hand many years ago. It was at this point I decided to only travel a short distance more before turning around. It was at this time I noticed that on my right I was looking at the bottom of a tree that had fallen down. I was curious to see if the tree was large so I stepped off the trail to find that the tree was not a whole tree at all. While standing right next to another tree stump facing the fallen tree with the trail right behind it I took one more step away from the trail and put my foot right through, what I had thought to be, solid ground. So my advice to you would be watching your step because the tree branches in those woods aren’t very strong.
