This is a Memorial to the late "Hans C. Seherr-Thoss" who served on the board at The White Memorial Foundation, Incorporated from 1966 -1992.
Whites Woods, to the locals, was created in 1913 by Alan C. White and his sister May W. White, the Foundation and Center today comprise of 4,ooo acres of fields, water and woodlands, 35 miles of trails, a museum, as well as campgrounds, boating facilities, meeting houses, dormitories and special areas for large outdoor educational and recreational gatherings.
Take Rt. 202 to Bissel Road the a quick right onto Whitehall Road.Follow this dirt road to the parking lot and museum. For a small charge it is worth it to walk thru the museum. Next go BEHIND the museum (No Charge) to the "Owl Enclosure." Now head down the dirt road keeping the field on your right. At the 4 way intersection turn Left, walk pass the Marsh Lands on your left and Bantam River on the right, pass the big Pine tree on Right with a painted square with the # 6 inside. Pass the "Nature Trail" sign. Continue until you come to Hans. Behind the the wall you will see a BIG tree that fell down, inside the tree on the ground at far end you will find Hans. Follow the "Nature Trail" back to your car.
