Dimock Road
Coventry/Mansfield/Tolland
(stamp size 3 1/2 x 5 1/2)
Make your way to the confluence of Tolland, Coventry and Mansfield on Dimock Rd.
This is a very short dirt road dead end.
Look for the white sign on right just before the rock wall. This sign announces the Dimock Farm river Trail.
Drive in. Park before the white arrow indicating the start of the trail.
Please bring gold ink with you.
You will walk on the dirt road for a short way. The trail will go into the woods on the right side of the road. Look for a wooden bridge. This is the start of the trail . The trail is marked by yellow tape. It is a bit confusing after the bridge but look for the path and/or the yellow tape. After the 3rd plank bridge you will go right. The Willimantic River will be on your right and you will spy the railroad tracks across the river.
You will come to an old road. Go right following the yellow trail.
Soon you will find 2 small white signs describing 2 historical sites across the river. (Peck’s Mill site c.1750-1850)
Shortly after this the yellow tape turns into yellow paint.
The trail veers off the road again and follows the river. (Maybe you will catch a glimpse of some kayaks or canoes.)
Keep going and the trail will come back out on the road.
There will be a rock wall on your left.
The end of the trail stops at Newcomb Brook and so do you . Go the rock wall on the left. Find the large Pine Tree on the backside of the wall. Climb over the wall and walk 3 steps past the Pine (heading away from the brook). Look low in the wall under a moss covered rock that is protruding out of the wall.
