256 Weigold Road
Tolland
(stamp size 2x 2)
Make your way to the Weigold Open space Conservation Area at 256 Weigold Road in Tolland.
This is a gorgeous silver image...of the Minnesota state quarter, which contains much of the state's natural beauty; the lakes, the trees, the abundant fishing opportunities, and the state bird, the common loon.
The sign says John H Weigold Conservation Area and is a blue loop trail.
Walk straight in, uphill and at the Y go left. At the next Y go right (left is a bit of a disappointment) uphill and when the trail levels out you'll have a gully to the left with a brook far below. When you start to get closer to the brook, look for a BIG rock on the left (almost on the trail) and from the point of this big guy walk north (over two big boulders) to a split ledge with a tree on top. To the left of this there appears to be a tree growing in the middle of four boulders. Look under a flat rock under the front edge of the boulder in back and to the left of the tree to find the marvelous Minnesota letterbox by Der Wandersmann.
Continue on for a great walk back to your car.
