#32 New York
by Miss Moon
Hyde Park Road
Stafford
(stamp size 4 x 4)
On route 140 just west of route 32, turn onto Hyde Park Road. Drive to the back of Witt School and park near the trail map. This is the start of the Woodlawn Trail blazed in blue.
Please bring black ink with you.
The trail will go steeply uphill and come to a gravel road with an arrow pointing right. Follow the arrow, staying with the blue blazes on the gravel road until it comes to a three way intersection with an old shed on the right. Stay straight here but the trail now becomes more traditional, still following the stonewall and continuing to go uphill. At the next intersection (with a picnic table) turn left with another arrow but stop to notice all the large old trees along the wall. When you come to a stonewall on the right, the trail goes straight or right. Turn right watching for breaks in the wall. There may be a couple of them but you want a larger one with a big end cap (?) on one side. Go through the wall and walk along the inside for 110 steps, watching right for a five foot stump with a falling tree that got caught up on another. Under the end of this tree, snuggled up to a rock is the neat New York letterbox by Miss Moon.
