This clue is part of the Urbana Park District’s Wild About Parks Quest--celebrating the Anita Purves Nature Center’s 30th anniversary. The Quest runs 6/13/09-6/12/10, but the boxes will remain in place indefinitely. Prizes can be won during the Quest for those who find 10, 20, and 30 boxes. Those who locate all 30 will be entered into a grand prize drawing. For more information, and for clue booklets, visit www.urbanaparks.org.
Victory Park
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 10 min
Enter the park from East Green Street at the park sign. Take a stroll down the east sidewalk. Note the tennis courts to your right and the newly constructed playground to your left. Keep heading north down the path. You will see a narrow field with four raised bed gardens to your left. These gardens are used by neighborhood and community groups - feel free to stop by and see what is growing, but don’t pick. Follow the path to the blue benches just south of East Main Street and take a seat. You will find the letterbox where the name of the park is revealed. Search behind the rock to discover the weighed down box. You may get a bit dirty taking it out of its hole. This box contains two stamps so be sure to stamp them both! Please note: this letterbox is located in a very exposed area, please be discreet when removing and replacing this box.
