This series is located at the Stump Sprouts Cross Country Ski Center and Guest Lodge at 64 W. Hill Rd. in Hawley, Massachusetts. There is a trail fee for skiing in the winter, and in the summer, groups can stay at the lodge for reunions or other gatherings. You can find opening hours, etc. on the website http://www.stumpsprouts.com

Box #1 (less than 0.5 mile roundtrip): Start at the downstairs dining area of the Lodge. Take the door out to the patio area just off the kitchen. Walk straight ahead on the trail marked "Meadowlark." As the trail begins to slope downward, look up at the hill to the right of the trail. When you see a stone wall across the top of the hill, running roughly perpendicular to the trail, go up to the wall. The box is hidden in a crevice on the lodge side of the wall, about four or five feet from the end closest to the trail.

Box #2 (1.75 miles roundtrip, gentle hills): Follow the trails to the spot marked "The Boulder" (some trail signs say, "The Lone Boulder"). In winter, you can reach the Boulder from many different routes. In other seasons, follow the blue diamond blazes up the hill beyond the farmhouse, winding your way up the hill. You'll know the Boulder when you see it. Stand under the highest point of the boulder and look straight ahead. The second letterbox is hidden within the embrace of two kissing trees that stand 12 paces from the base of the highest point of the boulder. If you continue to the very top of the hill, you'll reach a meadow with two benches where on a clear day, you can see mountaintops in Massachusetts, Vermont, and New York.

*These trails can be walked/hiked in spring, summer, and fall, but in the winter, they qualify as an "extreme" box because you can XC-ski to it.

NOTE: The Sharpers are not connected in any way to Stump Sprouts, but "Sharper K" enjoyed staying to the lodge, carving these stamps by the fire, and hiking to place these boxes!
