The Circus

A few years ago the Circus was coming to Arlington! Circus clowns visited parks in the neighborhoods to give out balloons to advertise and attract more children. One clown wandered into the Arlington Forest neighborhood and he soon found himself at Edison Park.

There were a lot of kids playing on the jungle gym so the clown handed out balloons and invited them to the circus. After all the children in the park had a balloon the clown noticed a path leading into the woods and thinking that he heard more children’s voices he decided to follow the path.

Soon he came to a T in the path and turned to the left. He quickly crossed over a bridge and walked along the wooded path beside the pretty little creek. He noticed ahead of him a huge 20 foot high tree stump and looked and listened for hungry woodpeckers. The clown continued forward and soon came to another bridge and crossed over the creek.

The clown turned left and was now walking on a paved path when he noticed to his left a building of sorts. The building included a stage. He walked climbed up on the stage and performed a pantomime followed by a dance.

When he finished his performance, he exited stage left and continued along the paved path. He looked to his left and noticed another bridge across the creek but walked past it.

Continuing forward he saw a low concrete bridge just skimming the surface of the creek and crossed it. Luckily, the creek was low and he didn’t get his big clown feet wet!!

As he walked further along the paved path, he saw yet another concrete bridge and crossed it over the creek.

After such a long walk, he was starting to get thirsty. Up ahead, on the path, he noticed a picnic pavilion and walked toward it. He saw a water fountain so he stopped for a drink of water. Suddenly, he realized he was lost. Thinking quickly, he released some of his balloons into the air as a beacon for the circus to find him.

Unfortunately, the balloons got tangled in the branches of a tree behind a pair of green trashcans. The clown was unable to get the balloons so he decided to leave a sign for others (letter box) between two felled rotting logs. Now everyone who follows the clown path can find his balloons and remember the Circus.

First followed on June 6, 2009 in celebration of CeCe’s 8th Birthday.
