Terrain Difficulty: Moderate (slight slope, 1 mi RT)
Recommended Ink: brown & blue
Status: alive
Kinsman Falls is a 20' waterfall located in Franconia Notch where Cascade Brook squeezes through a narrow slot and plunges into a broad pool. It is well worth the short hike from the Basin, and hopefully this microbox will give you even more incentive.
Directions:
From Lincoln, go a few miles north on I93 and exit at the Basin. Park in the lot.
Clues:
Walk west on the trail under the hwy toward the Basin. Continue west on the Pemi trail to a sign for the Basin-Cascade/Kinsman Falls Trail. Follow the blue trail marks as you climb next to the Brook until you get to Kinsman Falls, denoted by a wood sign on the left. After admiring the falls, go back to the sign and head back down the trail 25 steps to a large boulder on the right with trees growing on it. Turn left (north) and walk uphill off trail for 15 steps to a double-trunk tree near a large boulder. Continue 5 steps, going past the boulder, to a small pine tree growing out of a log laying on the ground. The microbox is hanging in it's branches about 1 foot high. Please replace as described and be careful walking on slippery roots and rocks.
