In 1923, the magnificent Marginal Way was given as a gift to the town of Ogunquit by Josiah Chase of York and is a 1.25 mile paved footpath running from Perkins Cove to Ogunquit Beach. It is called “the margin” because of its patterned development along the rocky edge of the cliff, and it offers one of the finest panoramas of a rocky coastal shoreline anywhere in Maine. There are many benches along the way to rest and admire the view, and also to stamp into this microbox.

Directions:
From Wells, head south on Route 1 for about 5 miles to the center of Ogunquit. Turn left (east) and follow Shore Road for about a mile. Bear left at the fork marked by the Perkins Cove sign and follow this road to the Marginal Way at Perkins Cove. Free parking is available but limited. The path begins right by Oarweed Restaurant, a good place to eat with nice views and free parking.

Clues:
From Perkins Cove, walk the path as it climbs and bends to the left, passing decreasing-numbered benches as you go. After crossing a bridge, continue to a path branching left just before a sign about "Maine's Coast - A Natural Treasure", with bench #21 on the right. Turn left and follow this path uphill 18 steps. Turn left again and go off trail 12 steps to a large evergreen tree. The microbox is hanging from a branch on the back side 4 feet high. Please replace as described and be discreet. You can stamp in at one of the nearby benches while enjoying the view.
