There is a relatively young winery in Fountain City called Seven Hawks Vineyard. It has some delightful wines. The Walkingsticks don’t live far from here so we make the beautiful drive up the river often. While in Fountain City, try some wine at the vineyard and have a meal at the Monarch public house.

To find your prize today, drive to the local Wisconsin State Park ‘kcirreM’. It is just north of Fountain City.

This is a short and not very difficult trek. It will likely take about ½ hour depending on how much time you want to spend at the scenic look outs.

You will want to find the South Campground. There are a few parking spots marked ‘Overflow Parking’ as you arrive in the South Campground. This is a good spot to park if you can grab one.

From the ‘Overflow Parking’ you will see the trail head to the Northeast. Start down the path. At the trail junction, take the trail to the right (Southeast) past the trail hiking marker.

The trail will make a hairpin turn, but continue going forward to the first scenic overlook. Take in the view. From the top of the wooden step platform take a compass reading of 20 degrees. Take 26 steps at this reading to get to the first part of a large fallen tree. Follow the tree trunk down to the second piece of the tree. Tucked among the first broken limbs on the ground on the West side of tree you will find what you seek.

Return to the trail and enjoy the rest of the loop. There is a second scenic outlook for your viewing pleasure.
