****REPORTED MISSING AFTER HURRICANE RITA*****

"Tall Pine" Letterbox
RELOCATED: 7/24/2003 REPLACED: 3/10/2004
Claiborne West Park, Orange County, Texas

Difficulty: Easy, flat

Directions:

Claiborne West Park is located on IH-10. From Vidor, take exit 864 and take overpass to west-bound feeder road, (two-way traffic)head east. Follow feeder road to park entrance on left. The park is free to visit and hours are 7:30am to 8:30pm. Watch for spiders, snakes and poison ivy!Trail WILL be muddy in rainy conditions.

To the letterbox:
Park at the park office and walk to the Armadillo Amble trail behind the office. As you amble this trail you will notice signs labeling trees and bushes along the way. At the Loblolly Pine sign on the left keep right and cross the bridge over the canal. At the end of the bridge take the trail to the left. The undergrowth is dense, the trail will rise and fall, and under-foot is a carpet of pine needles. Climb down one set of rugged wood steps and up another. About 20 paces ahead on the left is a pair of Siamese Twin Tall Pines. The twins are connected at the ankle and separate at the waist. In the separation you will find the Tall Pine LB! Please recover well! Thanks.
