This is my first letterbox so I have some help from KAT02893 who is with me on this vacation from the States. We are the Rhode Island Gals who are leaving our footprints in Nova Scotia.
On one of our sightseeing days we took a ride on the mini Cabot Trail which is a lovely ride with some beautiful views. One of our stops was at the Arisaig Provincial Park where there are FOSSILS to find if you are persistent. You can also find our “fossil” footprints on the trail.
To reach the Park: Arisaig Provincial Park, Antigonish County, is located near the community of Arisaig, 27 kilometers (17 miles) north of Antigonish and 57 kilometers (36 miles) northeast of New Glasgow on Route 245, the Sunrise Trail. http://www.novascotiaparks.ca/misc/parks_a-z_info.asp#arisaig
To find the box: Drive into the Park to the first parking lot with picnic tables on the right and restrooms on the left. Park here and enjoy the view of the lighthouse and village from the tree line where the picnic tables are. Between the tables and the restrooms is a sign with the trail map at the entrance to the trail. Enter here and stay straight on the red trail. Do not go up the hill on the trail to your left. A short walk on the red trail which also becomes yellow when you see a shed/shack on your right. Do not take the path to the shed. Continue straight until you can see the middle of the shed on your right. Take 42 female steps downhill and stop. You should see a yellow marker on a tree just in front and to the right of you. On your left will be a furry looking dead pine and several dead logs. Tucked under (reach from the back) the dead log which is parallel to the trail you will find the Rhode Island Gal's “fossil” footprints. Perhaps you can go back to the shed-shack area to stamp in. There is ink. After you have replaced the box, continue on the trail to the fossil cliffs for great photos and possible real fossils.
