The Cathedral of Leon, Nicaragua is the largest in Central America. It´s worth a visit, as it is the burial site of Ruben Dario and several other famous Nicaraguan poets. A ticket to climb to the Cupula at the top of the cathedral is 40 Cordobas ($2), and can be purchased inside a little door at the back of the cathedral on the south east side of the church.

Once you buy your ticket, enter the cathedral from the main entrance, the plaza side. Inside the cathedral, turn left and look for Carlos, the older man who works there. He will take your ticket and let you up the stairs to the top. Once you ascend, continue up the next flight of stairs outside. Once you are as high as you can go, turn SE (left) and walk toward the end of the roof. You will see a large dome with a yellow, pink, blue, and green stained glass square window towards the end of the roof. Go to the opposite side of the dome to the other stained glass window. If you have your back to this stained glass window, the end of the cathedral roof should be in front of you. At street level is the market. Beyond that is a pink and yellow cathedral, and beyond that are two volcanoes in the distance.

Turn back around to face the back side of the dome and stained glass window. Your back is now turned against the market, pink and yellow cathedral, and volcanoes. Behind the dome´s stained glass window is your box.
