[The box was reported destroyed. -Choi]

The Red Hat Society is a group of women age 50 and older. Their belief is that there is fun after 50 for women from all walks of life. For more information go to www.redhatsociety.com. This "Red Hat Letterbox" was planted by a local chapter called 'The Cinnamon Tarts'. You can spot a red hatter by the red hat and clashing purple clothes she wears. We invite all letterboxers of any age or gender to look for this box.

I found the red hat after looking for it for about an hour or so. only thing i could save was the stamp. the log book was destroyed and could bearly read anything on it. container was only half there. i cleaned up the stamp put in a new log book. i adopted the red hat, new directions listed below

Directions---Salmon River State Forest. Take Route 66 East through Columbia and Hebron. When you see the "Smokey the Bear" sign look after the sign for a roadside pull-off on the right. Park here. This box is about 20 min minutes one way.

Park and enter the woods by going past the gate. Walk on the old forest road and in about 4 0r 5 minutes you will come to a funny shaped shagbark hickory tree and large boulders on the right. ( be sure to bring your clues for the DEP Salmon River State Forest Letterbox and Eagle Eyes Letterbox) Keep walking on the road straight. there are several lefts but keep going straight for about 20 min or so. soon you will see a v shaped metal pole attached to two wood poles on your right. on your left is a great big fallen rotting tree. if you come to the horses and barn on the left you went a wee bit to far. from the v shaped pole turn around, head back 12 steps, red hat is in the stone wall to your left.
