A compass and bug spray is recommended
Total time: 90-120 minutes with driving
Terrain: Hiking, one steep hill
Start at Bayview Park where Oklahoma Ave begins. Follow the paved bike-path to the South. Take the paved trail to the left, heading towards the lakefront. Walk past the stairs on the left and continue on the trail. Take the second trail to the left, heading towards the water. Be careful going down the hill, especially if it’s wet. Cross over the bike path and head down to the beach. Walk NW on the beach. Find your favorite small pebble. From a solo tree on the beach, go left and walk SW up the hill. Look for a tangle of branches and a fallen tree. Add your favorite pebble to the box and re-hide well!
***Box 2 is back in action (8/21/10)!
Drive West on Oklahoma Ave. Box 2 was in Humboldt Park but it was taken twice so it moved to a park a little off of the Oklahoma Trail. Turn right on Chase Ave. and go a few blocks until you reach Baran Park. From the parking lot, take the trail that heads 120° to the tree line. Folllow the asphalt path (at 30°) to the intersection. Take the trail to the left. At the end of the path, take a heading of 20° and count 110 paces to a large tree near the tree line. At the tree, take a heading of 100° and count 12 paces. Look for a little log pile and you have one more piece of the puzzle.
Follow Oklahoma Ave West to the Honey Creek Parkway. Park a few houses NW of 76th St on Honey Creek Parkway. Walk towards the spillway and follow the trail SE. Walk on the trail until you find a circular clearing. Stand in the middle of the clearing and take a reading of 20°. Follow that trail until a log crosses the path. Follow that log to its base. From the base of the log, take a reading of 320°. Look in the base of the tree on this reading, about 12’ away.
