A Little Bird Told Me
A letterbox for the birds?
Kinda, it's in a sanctuary just for bird watching in town.
How do you get there?
Well, you have to go to Spirit Lake, Iowa, find the courthouse, you cant miss it on Hwy 71&9.
Start at the North East corner and go South 5 streets.
Go East on the 5th Street.
Continue 4 streets into a simple little neighborhood, it's not too far from the baseball fields.
Go South on that 4th Street.
Do you see it yet? Maybe?
Go to the SouthEast corner of the first street and count approx. 139 steps to the sanctuary entrance.
Enter this little bird paradise and go 27 steps to the fork in the trail.
A fork in the trail? Which way should I go?
Go South 23 steps to...yes another fork.
Oh no! Now which way?
Go East 19 steps to a stone bench.
Don't worry...continue East 22 steps to a little bird island.
Hidden in that little island is our letterbox. Please hide it very well after you enjoy stamping, there are neighbors close by.
Planted with permission by the local Audubon chapter president.
Hand carved stamp, homemade journal.
UPDATE 10/21/11: BOX IS MISSING. IM CURRENTLY TRYING TO FIND WHO MIGHT HAVE IT OTHERWISE WILL BE CARVING A NEW ONE FOR NEXT SUMMER!! TREE WORK BEING DONE IN SANCTUARY.
