At the dedication of the Lady Bird Johnson Grove in Redwood National Park numerous dignitaries were present and/or took part in the ceremonies August 27, 1969. One of these dignitaries was Don Clausen, the Republican Representative from the district in which the Grove stands. Nixon notes in his dedication speech of Lady Bird’s Grove that Representative Clausen deserves much credit for the project.

To find this letterbox drive to the beautiful Lady Bird Johnson Grove just north of Orick on Hwy. 101. Walk the walk until you arrive at trail post #12. Walk about 18 steps further. Make a quarter turn to your right (or west) to face a redwood tree right next to the trail. Resting behind this living tree is a deteriorating tree on its side. Reach up, over and behind the rotting tree. Wedged in between the old tree and the forest floor you should find the Don Clausen Letterbox. Please replace carefully as water can present a problem in the forest.

Thanks for coming and wave to Pat on the way out.
