Seek Turquoise Two Trees from the southern boat ramp on Turquoise Lake, close to the Matchless and Silver Dollar campgrounds.
Getting to the boat ramp: From the south (Hwy. 24, coming from Buena Vista), take Cty Rd 4 to the lake; from the north (coming from Leadville), take Cty Rd 9.
At the boat ramp, go to the upper parking lot, to the right. Look for broad stairs that descend to the lake, and take these. Turn right onto the trail following the lakeshore; follow this trail around the horseshoe-shaped cove with a nice beach. As you walk, notice the *two trees* that converge at their base on the trail's left, with DA (Dumbledore's Army?) carved on the left.
You will come to a 4-way junction, with a sign for Turquoise Lake Nature Trail (which you're actually already on). Continue straight, into the trees, away from the lake.
See the big rock that is flat on top, reminiscent of the massive Ayer's Rock in Australia (we thought), on your right? It's station 11 on the TL Nature Trail, lest you wonder. If you walk around to the right, look for the humpback whale face, its mouth a massive cleavage across the rock. From there, see triangle-shaped rock a ways off to the right? Go there. See the two trees to its right? The letterbox is hidden between them, undere the stump, rocks and wood. Please PLEASE hide again well!
There's a lovely rest or lunch spot just ahead, station 10, with 3 benches and a lake view. Enjoy!
