Whistle Stop

Rated Easy

1 Box BOX ____MISSING noticed Aug 2012---Will move to a new location with new box and new stamp by end of Aug. 2012 as Rt.85 Lumber is for sale and too many people are around there.

Fun Facts of Rt. 85 Lumber:
Rt. 85 Lumber, Amston, CT used to be Turnerville Station, Turnerville, Conn. Turnerville Station was said to have been built in 1884. Turnerville Station was later changed to “Amston Village.” It was a passenger station.
We are called the “Whistle Stop” because, not only were we once a passenger train station, we now sell model and toy trains inside our hardware store.

Rt. 85 Lumber opened its’ doors on April 1st. 1984 and is owned by Charles Karanian of New Britain. Charles and his brother, Walter, ran the business until Walter’s passing in 2003. At that time, Charles’s daughter, Kim Karanian, who was also employed at the business, took over as V.P.of the company and is helped by her husband, Randy Franklin, who keeps the business running as smoothly as possible. Rt. 85 Lumber is a Lumber, Hardware and Paint store. It is a private family owned business, whose number one priority is to assist the customer to the best of their ability. Rt. 85 Lumber is equipped with knowledgeable staff and plenty of friendly faces who are able and willing to help you with any of your hardware needs.

Directions: At the junction of Routes 66 and 85 in Hebron center..take Route 85 North about 1 mile to small brown Holbrook Pond and boat launch signs on right. Travel 1/2 mile on old rough paved road to parking lot on right.
Clue: Take path over log bridge about 175 steps to meet merging of dam path..continue forward about 75 steps and on Right see large flat Rock and a Wall about 20 steps off the path to right and parallel to path. At this end in wall is my hidden Whistle Stop box. Please re-hide well. Thank you.
