Head east out of Eagle River on Highway 70. Go past the campground that "Triangle Tree" is hidden at. You will come to a road named after a mathematical function. Turn Right. The first lake on this road has one of our favorite campsites. It is named after one of the most common minerals in the earth's crust. This mineral is often used in television, radio, radar and in making glass. Once you locate the lake (to the left off the road), pull into the small parking lot. There is only one campsite here. If it is taken, you can still look for the letterbox, as the lake is accessible for day use anyway. From the parking lot, walk down the trail to the lake. Stop and admire the lake from the sandy shore. Then, turn to your right and walk about 25 paces. Watch out for a pricker plant. Look for a fallen birch tree. Follow the birch tree into the woods and you will reach a trail. Take the trail to your left, away from the campsite. About 13 paces in, you will see a nurse log on your left. Follow that nurse log to another nurse log right behind it. There is a hemlock tree growing on it. You will find the letterbox hidden under a birch branch.

This is a wonderful campsite, so bring your tent!
