Kellogg Lake Outdoor Classroom is one of the largest outdoor classrooms in the region. A portion of the original Route 66 pavement runs along the Spring River in this area. Information regarding the amenities can be found here: http://www.kellogglake.com/

To get to Kellogg Lake, travel Hwy 71 to Carthage and take the Central Ave. exit. Turn east on Central Ave. (Kellogg Lake is approximately 2.3 miles from Hwy 71.) Central Avenue is also Hwy 96. Follow 96 through town. At the edge of town, 96 veers to the left over the train tracks. Cross the Spring River and the first right (Esterly) is the first entrance to Kellogg Lake. Drive into the area and take the first right. Drive all the way to the end of this road (the bridge you drove over on 96 will be on your right). Pull into the last parking area on the left and park. You will see a waterfall area.

To find the box from this parking area: look toward the waterfall and descend the steps. Immediately turn left. Staying on the border of the shrubbery on the left, begin counting steps. At approximately 15 steps, turn left toward the knobby old tree with a sawed off branch. Behind the tree is your prize, hidden under several piled up rocks. Please make sure you rehide discreetly because when we were there, there were several people enjoying the lake and waterfall. Relax and enjoy the view!
