Dreaming of the Spa
Rated Easy

From the time I was eight years old I’ve gone to Saratoga to watch some of the most magnificent racehorses on the planet. On my first trip, my mother took me to breakfast at the track, a Saratoga tradition. I remember watching the horses emerge from the morning mist as they trained for the races; I was hooked for life! Alas, 2009 is the first time in more than 45 years that I won’t be there in person. (Thanks to satellite TV I am still able to keep tabs on those equine beauties from my living room).

This box is a tribute to the Spa and all of us who love the history, majesty and thrill of thoroughbred racing.

Directions: From the junction of Route 207 and Route 85 in Hebron head east on 207. After a short distance the Airline Trail crosses the road. Pull over on the right to park. There is additional parking on the other side of the road if needed. NOTE: The Airline Trail crossing is a blind spot. Be very careful turning in or out of the parking area.

Heading south on the trail (right side of Route 207) continue until you pass a ramshackle wooden portion of the fence on the right and cross a small culvert running under the path. Go a short distance until you see a tree that snapped but hasn’t fallen completely also on the right. From the tree count seven steps (left foot only) and look to the rocks near the trail on the left. Your letterbox is waiting for you behind the largest rock. Please stamp in and re-hide well since the box is close to the trail. Thank you.
