Woolly Mammoth's Hide

Sid the Sloth, Diego the Sabertooth Tiger, and Manfred the Woolly Mammoth were walking along Wisconsin's Ice Age Trail when they spotted Scrat the Squirrel looking suspiciously over his shoulder, eyes darting side to side, clinging tightly to his precious acorn while he desperately tried to find a secure place to hide it.

"I bet I could find the perfect place for that nut," said Sid.

"Which nut?" Diego sarcastically replied.

"Huh? The nut, the acorn. Do you see any other nuts?" queried Sid, cluelessly investigating the scene.

"A couple," Diego snidely retorted.

Sid ignored the comment and continued, "Well, anyway, I bet I could hide it so that nobody would find it. I'm really good at hiding things, world class even. I'm known all over for my hiding skills. I bet I'm better than either of you!"

Manfred chimed in with a laugh, "Hah! I bet you wouldn't even remember where you put it," and snorted as he laughed at his own joke.

"I would so. Why wouldn't I remember? I have an excellent memory, the best! I'm world class, I'm tellin' ya!" Sid insisted. "I bet I could hide something that wouldn't be found for a million years."

Diego rolled his eyes. "Riiiight. I bet I would find it in 5 minutes flat."

Sid put his hands on his hips and pouted, "I bet you wouldn't!"

Diego took a few steps forward so he was inches from Sid's face, squinted his eyes at Sid, and with a menacing smirk showing his sharp sabertooth, slowly drawled, "What do you wanna bet?"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa guys!" intervened Manfred. "I know! Let's have a contest."

Diego looked intrigued while Sid ran on, "Oh, I'm a pro at contests. I win contests left and right. I'm world class at contests. I bet I'm the best contest winner there is!" He paused, and asked, "What kind of contest?"

"A treasure hunt," continued Manfred, "to prove who is the best treasure hider. We'll each hide a treasure and then we'll see if it can be found by the other two. If you find one, either sign or stamp your identity as proof."

"Sounds good," said Diego, and he bounded off to hide his treasure.

"Let's do this!" exclaimed Sid, and he sauntered off in another direction.

Manfred the Woolly Mammoth was then left by himself to hide his own treasure. He walked a great distance along the Ice Age Trail and eventually found himself at the top of a large hill covered in snow. He looked down and saw the strangest sight--humans were speeding down the snowy hill with long, thin sticks attached to their feet. Some were going down in round tubes. But the strangest part was that they were coming back up the hill to do it again! He thought to himself that those silly humans would never get to where they were headed.

Manfred thought he could walk down the hill, but it was too steep, and his legs buckled underneath him. Unexpectedly, he began sliding down the hill, gaining frightening speed. With his trunk waving wildly in the air, he screamed with excitement as gravity took him all the way down the hill into to a paved area that was marked "Lot C". He noticed a sign reading "Sunburst" which worried him and so he got out of there before the sun actually decided to burst.

Manfred continued walking east on the Ice Age Trail, looking for a good hiding place for his treasure. He thought about using his trunk to put it high in the trees, but Sid would surely find it there. He thought about hiding it under the large pile of rocks on his left, but it would never fool Diego. He continued until he arrived at a set of two wooden boardwalks over a marshy area.

"Perfect!" he thought, as he carefully hid his treasure under one of the boardwalks. "They'll never believe I could hide something under there!" Manfred wanted to make sure he could find his own treasure again, so he wrote down the number 24-- the plank number under which his treasure was hiding. He trusted his own woolly mammoth memory to remember which of the two boardwalks it was under. "Sid and Diego will never find my treasure!" Manfred confidently boasted.

Can YOU find the Woolly Mammoth's Hide?
