THIS SERIES TAKES APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS, ON A WARM DAY, IN AN EMPTY CEMETERY

This series has 12 BONUS BOXES, along with the 12 traditional boxes, that hold 2 stamps each. Take notes with you, for your "cemetery" research, or a camera and maybe even take a small bunch of flowers, to draw attention away from your real mission. Many people come here to roller blade or walk their dogs so be cautious. And PLEASE re-hide and re-bag these boxes well. It helps to lay the stamps and logbooks horizontal, in the bottom of their baggies, and then rolling the baggies from the bottom up, to get all the air out. It is a tight fit so be careful not to tear the baggies. Even though this cemetery may be busy at times, no one stays very long, unless they may be boxers too. In which case you could ask them, which way is NORTH?

Directions:
From the intersection of US 20 and Lime Street, take Lime Street north for 8/10 of a mile to Cemetery Drive. The drive goes through the lime plant property and goes back 3/10 mile to the Woodville Cemetery entrance. The Woodville cemetery is made up of several burial grounds. Thus it is sometimes referred to as the Union Cemetery.

Clues:
When the road splits, keep to the right. Park on the right just after you pass the mausoleum. Sometime prior to 1920 a Toledo businessman put money up to build this mausoleum. However, he only sold a few crypts. Due to the deterioration of the building, the bodies were removed in 1997, the caskets placed in vaults and buried in the Gold Hill section of the cemetery in a mass grave. (more about this later).

Looking at the front of this mausoleum, notice the large tree at the top left side on the hill? At the base of this tree, between the tree and the roof top you will find the CANCER letterbox under a piece of bark and some leaves.

Continue up the dirt drive to the right and park by the two brick pillars. This is the Woodville Catholic Cemetery, to your right, on this hilltop.

Walk through the two pillars on the old road and continue to the monument on your left that looks like a tree trunk. The name on the trunk is JOHN CASTLE.

Proceed back behind this row of stones toward the next tree trunk you see. It belongs to JOHN WALSH.

Now keep going to the last row of this cemetery section, back at the tree line and you will notice yet another tree. It belongs to a man by the name of TUDICO.

Now looking at the tree line at the back of the lot. At about 2 o'clock position, notice the largest tree in this area. It has three smaller trunks of branches on the right side of this tree. Hidden amongst these 3 trunks, you will find the SAGITTARIUS letterbox.

Turn and follow this tree line back toward the last tree trunk monument, continue on, crossing over the gravel drive way to that old narled tree trunk. Inside the the hollow tree trunk, under a large piece of broken log, you will find the TAURUS letterbox.

Look next to the hollow tree trunk. Here you will see a military stone for MECH. SCOTT DAMSCHRODER.

Now turn completely around and walk to the huge monument, a little to the right, with the cross on the top. To the left of this stone are two tree stump monuments for the BUSSMANN family. Luise C Bussmann is on one of the stumps.

From here look at about 1 o'clock and notice the flagpole. Go to the row of stones in front of the flagpole and find the cedar tree.

Looking at the cedar tree you will notice it has recently been butchered. Here you will NOT find the AQUARIUS letterbox. I am afraid it has been discovered while the huge tree was being pruned. I looked everywhere for it and it is nowhere to be seen.

So... look back to about the 10 o'clock position to where your car is parked.

On your way back, notice two cedar tree/hedges surrounding a small headstone belonging to ANTHIA STRATE.
Look "STRATE" to your left inside the hedge to find the GEMINI letterbox and then "STRATE" to your right, about 12 inches up from the base of the tree, you will find the LIBRA letterbox.

Before getting into your car look up this gravel drive. See the HONKIN BIG TREE with the 7 trunks? In the very center you will find the LEO letterbox covered with broken sticks and leaves.

OK now travel back on this same dirt lane back past the narley tree trunk and around bend to the left. Keep straight, but stop just after the road intersects to the left. Get out and read the two lamb monuments. They are for JOHN and WILLIAM, the 9 year old and 6 year old sons of A & C PRIOR. These children both died in the same month. The lambs represent very young children...

Continue on, when the road curves to the left, STOP and notice the corner fence post to your right. Directly behind the fencepost you will find 3 trees in a group. Behind the center tree you will see some old pieces of cement and a small pile of stones. Here you will find the VIRGO letterbox.

At the T in the road, drive to your right. Go past the two roads that intersect to your left. In front of you, notice two pine trees. Turn right between these two trees. This is the GOLD HILL section I referred to earlier. On your left you will see a large hedge/tree at the FRANK and ANNA ROHTERT monument. STOP here. Look to the left of the tree and see their 6 year old son EMERY is buried here. From this side of the tree look from his stone directly into the tree and you will find the SCORPIO letterbox.

Look back towards your car and notice the large stone on the other side of the road. This is where the mausoleum patrons are buried under one headstone. Go read the names and numbers and you will see a mistake the headstone carver made. The numbering is wrong. The person number 20, is listed as a second number 19? I wonder if that carver lost his job or gave them the stone for free???

Follow the road around to your left. Continue to the left. You will see those two pine trees ahead. Notice WIDMER is to your left. At the intersection, look to your right and notice the stack of logs monument on your right.

Turn right at this intersection. Continue on. Look at the huge monument on the hill, To the right of that headstone is another very large stone for PRICE.

The road curves around so that the PRICE headstone is now on the left of the HUGE headstone. Continue till you see the tall thin monument for BRIM. Notice the tall bushes/trees just beyond. Pull up to the intersection and park.

Walk back on the road about 4 headstones and look back a row to the large headstone belonging to SILAS. It has an urn surrounded by curtains on it. To the left notice his daughter is buried. She has a hand pointing up to heaven on her stone.

Walk back up the hill toward those bushes I mentioned before. There is a headstone between these bushes. Here you find 3 letterboxes amongst the base of the bushes, inside them. You will find, ARIES, PISCES and CAPRICORN. One is in the left tree toward the back. One is in the right tree towards the front and one is in the right towards the back. You may have to search a bit in the very dense undergrowth, and please make sure they are separated and re-hidden carefully, so they cannot be easily seen.

Now you can turn right and leave the gates of this cemetery behind. It was a very beautiful day for a walk, and a couple of dozen letterboxes.
