Lowell Observatory is among the oldest observatories in the United States, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. It was founded in 1894 by Percival Lowell, the astronomer who fueled speculation that there were canals on Mars. Over the years there have been several notable discoveries here, chiefly the dwarf planet Pluto by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930, and you can still see the telescope he used. I highly recommend taking a tour after finding this microbox.

Directions:
In Flagstaff, go west on Hwy 180 until it meets Hwy 89. Continue west on Santa Fe Avenue for about ½ mile and the road becomes Mars Hill Avenue. Continue west to Lowell Observatory visitor center and park.

Clues:
Walk to the visitor center and continue on the sidewalk paralleling the road you came in on to its end at a blue rail and yellow fire hydrant. There is a large evergreen tree 10 steps further and you need to walk around behind it. The microbox is hanging from a branch about 2 feet high near the trunk. Please replace as described and be discreet.
