Terrain Difficulty: Easy (slight slope, .2 mile RT)
Recommended Ink: brown
Status: alive
Cascade Falls is high in the red stone cliffs overlooking Ouray, and can be seen from many vantage points around the city. But climbing to its base via the Lower Cascade Trail is the best, and the only way to find this letterbox.
Directions:
From US 550 in Ouray turn East on 8th Avenue and follow it to its end and park at Cascade Falls Park.
Clues:
Walk up the trail until you get to a Y jct near the falls. Go right uphill to the "Habitats" sign on the pine tree, then the "Insect Damage" sign 9 steps further. Continue 30 steps to the "Cascade Falls" sign for a view of the falls. Go back 5 steps, turn left and go uphill 30 steps to a large, long boulder behind several pine trees. The letterbox is on the back side near the middle of the boulder under rocks. Please replace as described.
