Hubbard Park in Montpelier has 185 acres and has roughly 7 miles of hiking and skiing trails, numerous picnic areas, a soccer and ball field, a small pond, a sledding hill, and a 54 foot observation tower. According to the City’s website, the park hours are 7AM to 9PM.

Note: At the time of the placing of this letterbox, the tower was undergoing restoration, and the tower itself was closed to the public.

This letterbox will not be accessible if there is snow on the ground.

This is an easy, well-graded walk, suitable for young children.

From 89 North or South
- Get off exit 8
- Take LEFT at second light
- Take Right at the light onto State St.
- You are going by the Vermont Capital building
- You will see on your left the movie theater, post office, and the court house. Take a left onto Elm St.
- Go through the Red blinking light.
- About .2 miles from the Red blinking light take a LEFT onto to Spring St.
- At the end of Spring St. bear left onto Parkway.
- Go up the hill and bear left onto a dirt road.

Park in the first parking lot on the left. Enjoy the serenity of the small pond here. If there is no parking available, continue up the hill a very short distance to another parking area on the left. Hike up the road (less than 5 minutes). You will pass a sweeping meadow up a hill on the right. Notice the shelter is visible. Look for an intersection of two dirt roads on your left – the wooden sign post directs you to the new shelter and the old shelter. Take a left at this intersection.

Continue up the hill until there is another intersection. There is a gate with a sign that says “to tower”. Proceed through the gate and continue up the road. Approximately 100 yards up this road, there will be a small open grassy area. Take the unmarked trail at the back of the grassy area. At the trail’s entrance, you will step over a small drainage ditch, and go up two small stone steps.

Once you take the unmarked trail, continue uphill approximately 47 single (adult) steps. Look left for the two sisters, with an attached stump, approximately 15 single adult steps off of the trail.

The Hubbard Park Tower letterbox is hidden in a hollow at the base of the sisters, covered with bark.

Please re-hide and re-cover carefully.

I would like to hear from you if you locate this letterbox.

Continue up the trail a short distance to view the progress of the tower restoration.
