The International Order of the Rainbow Girls is only affiliated with the Masonic Lodges, Order of the Eastern Star Chapters and Courts of Amaranth. Many groups use the name of Rainbow in their title or organizational name. The International Order of Rainbow Girls is NOT associated with any group other than the three listed above.! “Rainbow” is an organization for girls between the ages of 11 and 20, who are from Masonic, Eastern Star or Amaranth homes and sometimes a friend of a Rainbow member. At the age of 20 or marriage, which ever comes first, the member in good standing will become eligible to receive the Majority Degree. The girl must be sponsored by two Rainbow girls or a majority member AND an adult from the Masons or Eastern Star. Then voting takes place before acceptance. The International Order of Rainbow Girls is a service organization. The girls learn about charity, hope and service to their community. There are also social events with the Order of DeMoLay. To me, in 1956, it was a thrill to be accepted and to wear a white gown and have my aunt and uncle (who was also my god-mother), present for my initiation and when I was presented through the stations. I was only a substitute organist, but I had two cousins who were organist and Worthy Advisors. Each Spring we, in a large group, would attend the Worthy Advisor’s church on Rainbow Sunday. Along with Girl Scouts, Luther League, Choir, 4-H Woodland Wanderers, H.S. Band and Chorus I had wonderful years in the 50’s giving me wonderful memories.

Directions: From the Center of Colchester, head south on Route 85, passing the large town green and old Route 2 (Norwich Avenue) on your left. Proceed down South Main Street to 236 South Main Street passing CVS Plaza on the left and passing several white houses on the right and see the Wooster Lodge #10 --Masonic Sign and building also on the right. There is parking in front of the building. Go down the LEFT side of the building and see a metal set of stairs. Next to the wall of the building under these stairs are wood boards nailed to the building with a space behind it where you will find what you are looking for. Please be discrete as there are a house and business next door. Thank you for visiting.
