Alive and well as of 7/20/2010

Your journey begins at South Coast Botanical Gardens near the border of Torrance and Rolling Hills. These gardens are very nice and well taken care of, so please be very discreet. Open from 9:00-5:00 daily. There is a fee for visitors. They are, $8 for adults, $6 for seinors, $3 for kids (5-12), FREE for kids under 4. FREE TO EVERYONE ON THE 3RD TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH! Bring gloves, and your own ink pad.

This will be a multiple stamp box. If you have any stamp, (store bought, or hand-carved) that has to do with a botanical garden, you can add it to the box. If you do, please make sure you put it in the big freezer bag I put in the box, separate from the original stamp. Also, make sure you make a note in the logbook, and send me an e-mail telling me that you added the stamp. Now we'll really make it a South Coast Botanical Letterbox!

CLUES: Enter through the gates and go straight until you reach the round-about. Stay on the right side of the paved trail. Pass the Discovery Garden on your right. Cross intersection and go down steps into the Rose Garden. Turn right at the bottom of the steps and go under the arch.Follow dirt trail left then make a right. Make a right back to the paved road. Turn left on paved road and follow green line until you reach Creek Lane. Turn left on Creek Lane and follow the signs to the lake. Turn right at the path to the lake. Take path around lake until you reach a large boulder on your left in front of a Brazilian Pepper Tree (tree is marked). The boulder is about 6 feet off the trail. To the left of the boulder is a dead, gnarled tree. At the back of the dead tree, is a hole covered by wood chunks and leaves. There is a large white rock on top as a marker. Underneath the rock and wood chunks about 6 inches down, is the letterbox.

When you are done, make sure you put the box EXACTLY where you found it, covered with wood chunks and the rock.

There are many walks in the gardens, and they are all nice. Picnicing is only allowed in picnic areas. If you have never been here, I would recommend this as an all-day trip. The gardens are huge and are really worth seeing. Make sure you pick up a map. The must-sees are the Garden for the Senses, Banyan Forest, and the Lake.

New stamps added:

7/20/2010- I added a bee stamp.
