From Northern New Jersey (Via Routes 80 and 287):
Take Route 80 to Exit 43, onto Route 287 South
Take Exit 37 onto Route 24 East to Exit 2A
Exit onto Route 510 West (Columbia Turnpike). Take next left onto Park Avenue
Park Avenue turns into Main Street in Madison, park along this street.
Clues:
Park your car in the center of Madison and walk to the ocher brick building on the corner of Green Village Road and Main Street. This brick building is part of the history of this particular letterbox. This large structure that wraps around the corner was built by Mr. D. Willis James in 1899, as was the former library across the street (now The Museum of Early Trades and Crafts). Quickly walk in a westerly direction past these two buildings to avoid the evil stares of the griffins and gargoyles. As you walk by the Museum on the left, you will approach a monument that points you in every direction. Continue walking along the sidewalk. At the fork, bear left. You should see a giant bird on your right (accross the street). Keep walking up the street until you go under the railroad bridge. Stop at the crosswalk and turn around. You should see a huge rock behind you with a plaque on it. This plaque is a tribute to Mr. and Mrs. James to whom this letterbox is dedicated. Now cross Madison Avenue and continue walking up the hill. Take a right at the flagpole with the giant rock in front of it. Continue up the path towards the footbridge. Take the stairs over the bridge and down the other side. A large tree is immediately on the left at the bottom of the stairs. Look around this tree...here is where the box will be.
