Start at Platt Park located behind Platt Farm on Flood Bridge Rd. in Southbury. (Dogs not allowed?)
Take exit 14 off 84 headed toward South Britain…this is Rt. 172. Turn right onto Library Rd. Turn right again onto Flood Bridge Rd. Turn left between the white fence and the white farm house (this looks like a driveway but is actually Cass Road). Drive between the red barns, uphill to the parking lot. No dogs allowed :-(

Note the kiosk and head that way to walk between the white blazed post and the blue blazed post. The hike is almost four miles round trip and crosses one paved road. After coming here to find the Brownie boxes (the first one is missing) I was quite excited to see the sign that said Transylvania Rd. 4.1 mi. Today I was quite disappointed to find that it’s not four miles in the woods but decided to leave these boxes anyway.

Head up the blue and white trail, you’ll see lots of side trails along the way but stay on this one until you get to the middle of a field with a metal pole with red, white and blue blazes. Now turn right and follow red and white blazes until an intersection with red, white and yellow blazes. Stay with white and come to a magnificent cliff on the right. Part way along the cliff there’s a ragged ten foot long boulder close to the trail with a leaning tree behind it. Look in the back and tucked between this boulder and two short logs you’ll find Just A Hop.

Continue on the trail, the cliff will veer away from you and you’ll come to a smaller cliff on the left. Cross a brook and come to a road. Turn right to walk along the road (please be very cautious) until the blazes tell you to cross the street and head uphill along the side of buildings. The trail now becomes very steep and rocky but will level out with a nice view (after some ugly signs of civilization). Walk along the ridge line for awhile and then go downhill heading towards powerlines. Part way down the hill (after the lines come into view) look left for a cedar tree whose twin has decided to break away and get some rest. Look in the base of the standing cedar for Skip (this one reminds me of Jonah’s Dad). If you get to the powerlines you went too far.

Finish going downhill, cross under the powerlines, and walk for quite a long time passing many nice cliffs and rock formations, finally coming to a short steep hill again leading to the powerlines . Almost at the top of this hill is a large Oak with a good sized rock to the right of it. Look behind and under this rock for And A Jump. If you get to the powerlines you went too far.

Retrace your steps. Bring green, blue and brown inks. I apologize for not having more woods :-)
