I first dreamed of visiting here in the 1960s when I was a member of the Gene Pitney fan club, and owned all of his LPs. It took more than 40 years, but I got to make the pilgrimage to Gene's hometown at last. The letterbox is hidden near a spot were Gene used to go to write songs.

If you're old enough to be a Gene Pitney fan, you can get the map of significant Gene Pitney historic sites by checking this website:

If you want to see the museum located in the coffee shop, make sure you plan to be in Rockville in the morning, or you’ll find the door locked.
To get to Rockville, take Interstate 91 to Mile Hill Road (rt 31) and head north. Pass Bradley on the left and Spruce on the right. Veer to the left on the street named for the wreath that signifies victory (sometimes people try to rest on these).
If you miss this turn, instead take a left on Main St., and then a quick left on the street named for the famous bridge in New York City.
Either way, turn left on Cedar St. and wind to the left going higher and higher. When you reach the top, near the entrance to the stone walk leading to the tower, you will see three picnic tables. You should park near here. If you have time, walk up to the tower and look at the beautiful view from the top of the hill.
To find the letterbox, face the picnic tables with your back to the tower. Walk to the table farthest to the right. Stand on the right side of that table and put your back to it. Walk forward approximately 17 steps and look at the base of the big tree there. Please be sure to hide it well before you leave. (Thank you to Flutterby for finding the lost box and re-hiding it in this new place.)
