Here in the northeast we are very fortunate to enjoy a wide range of native and migratory birds. At Amston Lake we see everything from the tiny Ruby-throated Hummingbird to the Great Blue Heron and the majestic Bald Eagle.
Please be aware that Amston Lake is private. Beach access and beach parking is by permit only. For more information about the lake visit www.amstonlake.org.
Directions: From the Route 85 in Amston turn onto Lake Road (Left if you’re coming from Hebron and right if you’re coming from Colchester). At the top of the hill bear right, then keep to the left past the old firehouse and the beach. Follow the lake around and bear right on Wood Acres Road. (If you pass the Amston Lake Community News sign you’ve just missed the road.) Continue a short distance on Wood Acres Road to the clubhouse (#16) on the right and park in the parking lot. Facing the building go to the rear horseshoe pit on the right. Take five steps, left foot only, toward the two large trees. At the base of the tree on the right you’ll find what you are seeking under a flat rock. Please stamp in and re-hide. Thank you.
