Letterboxing is a fun way to explore Franklinia at the Arboretum. During the month of September the trees will be at several different stages of flowering and fall color
changing.
Follow these directions:
Go to the Arnold Arboretum (main address 125 Arborway, Jamaica Plain MA 02130).
Walk up Bussey Hill until you see a sign for Explorers Garden/Chinese Path.
Continue up the sidewalk 8 paces and take a right.
After 30 paces, you will pass 2 crabapple trees on your left; continue on.
Eventually you will see 2 green irrigation covers. Continue on the path for another 23 paces.
On your right is a large tall spreading shrub with many white flowers, this is the Franklinia. If you look down, there is a Helwingia japonica with a green & white plastic clip. Under this is the letterbox. Follow the directions inside and please leave everything as you found it.
