If you find yourself in Door County, I expect you may be there to admire several of the ten lighthouses that surround the peninsula. The Eagle Bluff Light, for instance, is located right outside of Ephraim and Fish Creek. Here is where THIS journey begins!

After arriving at the Light, find and read the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse Heritage Sign, which will give you a brief history on the Light and its Keepers. While you are reading, take special note of the cost for building the lighthouse, as well as the name of the group of Islands from which this Light protects any passing ships.

If you have time, I recommend the tour of the lighthouse. However if you’re strictly on a letterboxing mission, I understand. Take the happy trail that is almost directly across from the lighthouse.

From the trail head sign, divide the cost of the lighthouse by 10 times the number of letters in the first word of the group of islands. This is the number of large paces you will need to take down the trail.

Due East, you should be able to spot in the distance a large “shipwrecked” tree caught in between two others. (The fantastic thing about this tree is that although it has been damaged, it still survives and grows!)

Hidden beneath the wreckage you will find your treasure.

Note: Updates on the conditions of this box are greatly appreciated as I will not be able to visit it very often. Happy hunting!
